Chapter 148: Shadows and Skulls

I stir on my desk at the sound of my cell ringing. I check the caller ID. It's Aiden. I yawn, settling against the back rest of the desk chair. I pick up the call, and the familiar voice of Moon Grove's beta answers me.

Aiden says, "I found people at the neighbourhood you mentioned who attested to seeing her around."

"And?" I wait patiently for the results. This can make or mar the facts already formed in my head.

"She started coming around a week ago. Before then, they've never seen her. She is actually homeless."

I rake a hand through my hair. Something must have happened. I never searched too well. Maybe it's all my fault she's suffered this much. I didn’t know she was alive.

"But there's something else."
