Chapter 39

Annoyed, Gigi waved them off. "Get lost, did I call you over?"

The sales associates, taken aback, retreated. Scarlett, sensing Gigi's displeasure, spoke up. "We'll try on clothes by ourselves, and if we like something, we'll call you for the check-out. You can go back to your work."

Once the sales associates had left, Gigi started venting to Scarlett. "What's that woman's deal? Why is she asking me to eat walnuts? Is there something wrong with her mind?"

"Walnuts?" Scarlett, who had met Wyneth for the first time, did not understand the significance of the walnuts. "What do you mean?"

"Last time we met, we were talking, and she suddenly mentioned walnuts downstairs, asking me to taste them. Don't you think she's strange?"

At first, Scarlett found it odd too, but then she had a sudden flash of insight. "Walnuts are supposed to be good for the brain."

Gigi's tirade stopped short, and an awkward silence descended between the two. Moments later, Gigi slapped Scarlett across the face.
