Chapter 17

Elena:

I looked at the file for a few seconds, opening it again and again and again. This was the third time that I have read it, but I still couldn’t make out anything that was inside it.

It has been hours since Alvize and Viktor left the house. The two of them went to tend to their things, and while I stayed here attending to mine, I tried to find pictures, tried to find anything that led to the cemetery or the child who was named Konstantin. But so far, nothing led to the child, not even records of a child being born and buried. Maybe it was true, the child was not human after all.

I stared at the pictures of Francesco’s file, I didn’t even know how I was going to be explaining that to Mr. Joseph. The man wouldn’t understand unless it was logical, and so far, I couldn’t find anything that was logical at all when it came to what we were dealing with.
