Chapter Four: The Den’s Lair

I woke up early. I was one of those anal type of people that could go to bed at one a.m. and still wake up when the alarm rings at four a.m. I stayed the night in my old bedroom. I wanted to participate in pack training while I was on pack grounds.

Sadly, my mother only had one item on my list that I needed to make it through this meeting with Alpha Brock today. She only had long white gloves. Why I thought she would have a brown-haired wig is beyond me. Nor did she ever buy sunglasses. Wolves don’t

have issues with the sun’s glare that humans do. Therefore, there is no need to purchase sunglasses. When I asked my mother for these items, she stared at me like I was crazy and seriously needed a lobotomy.

After training, I ran back up to my room and showered. I was in a hurry to get to the mall when they opened at nine a.m. I still needed to make an appearance at the packhouse for the six-a.m. breakfast with the pack, catch up with some old friends. Gossip about who is now mated and not mated, and who was the first to bare a pup.

Then there is the issue of dressing up in a comfortable suit. I would wear a grey pencil skirt and a white angora sweater, and grey pumps to match the ensemble.

I was learning to change most recently from wearing jeans to wearing dresses more. I hated being the center of attention. I was the teenager that sat in the back of the classroom, wearing baggy jeans, a t-shirt, tennis shoes, and to top it all off, a hoodie which I pulled over my head.

I was the “A” student, the geek. That is the way I liked to be referred to throughout high school, as well as in the university I am now attending. My brothers and sisters seemed to like the attention as they walked down the halls strutting their sexy clothes and pack

members fawned over them. No one realized I was one of those children.

This saved me a lot of headaches, with males hoping to score, or gain a higher position in the pack, by making me their chosen Luna. My goals were outside of this pack, and it wasn’t becoming anyone’s Luna, chosen or with a true mate.

I really don’t think my family has ever seen me dressed up before. Today is going to be a real treat today. In light layers, I brushed my eyelids with silver eyeshadow to match my gray skirt. I had a natural blush on my cheeks, so there was no need for that type of makeup, and I had naturally rosy lips. The last touch was the mascara. The blend was a blackish grey mascara. I twirled in the mirror. I looked amazing.

I have beautiful blonde tresses that lie in curls around my waist. Today I was going to hide this in a wig, but it is so worth it. I don’t need Alpha Blake recognizing me as the clumsy interviewee who is also his mate. I have already slid on my mother’s long formal white gloves. With that, I am ready to take off in my “J” series Jaguar. I kissed my Jag good morning. I hopped into my car and was off to the mall.

Enroute to the mall, I sadly had to pass Alpha Brocks' large glass building. I tried to speed up as I saw that the Alpha himself was outside conversing with his beta. I ducked down so only my eyes could be seen above the steering wheel; I couldn’t let them see me.

Hitting myself on my forehead after I had passed them, I am asking myself how I could have been so stupid?

While at the mall, I had a shoulder-length brunette wig fitted by the attendant for me. After that, I bought a dark pair of sunglasses. I felt pleased with my ingenuity. Laughing to myself, that Alpha would never know who I am.

Today, I am now ready to meet with said Alpha, and his beta. I am my father's intern, along with my brother. Therefore, we all had to be at the meeting to discuss purchasing the building next door.

Getting annoyed about the topic of discussion, which was about wanting to assimilate our small pack with Alpha

Brock as a part of our negotiations.

I had enough and firmly stood up and glared at him directly into the eyes. There is nothing more disrespectful than staring a strong Alpha in the eyes and looking down at him while you demand his retreat from said subject. Something in me thrived off of this

banter between him and I, and I knew I would win.

"Alpha, per capita our pack may be small,. However, we are the richest pack in these states, besides the

royal kingdom itself. Our wolves are well trained and are often recruited into the royal army. Your pack may be large, however small ours is, we are better financially and in any other way and we do not need your pack in the slightest. Now, either give us your blessing to move next door, and we might use your security services in all of our hotels. Otherwise, we can move our building across town onto the human side of town, and use human security services for our

hotels!"

Alpha Brock jumps up angry at my disrespect. My father and brother also jump up, but I raise my hand gesturing to them, letting them know "I Got This". My dad is angry, I can tell, and in our mind-link my father is yelling at me things I am not willing to

answer right now. This is when I block my dad out.

Alpha Brock only understands hardball, and that is what I am going to give him.

Alpha Brock steps in front of me, I don't back away, we are practically nose to nose, and my wolf is having a

sensual fest of images of him in my mind. I had to block her out too.

"You are a very disrespectful she wolf!" He whispers into my ear.

At this point, I remembered he couldn't touch me, or he would know we were mates. I back up, "Alpha, do you welcome us to the neighborhood or not?"

I crossed my arms across my breast, standing firmly.

Instead of answering my questions, Alpha Brock squints his eyes, trying to survey my face under my dark

sunglasses.

"Have we met before?" I saw him wink at me.

That Ass he knows it was me that day. However, he doesn't have proof.

I turned around and as I walked away, looking over my shoulder, I repeated, "Let me know if we are welcome to the neighborhood by tomorrow morning, otherwise our business goes elsewhere." I turned and left the restaurant without even ordering my

meal. I stood outside by my Jag, my baby. Watching the scene inside the restaurant unfold before me. I see my father apologized for his crazy daughter's behavior and Alpha Brock laughed for some reason.

My brother ran out after me, ahead of the rest of them who were still sitting at the table.

“Stephanie, you know dad is fearful he may have to have you committed, right?” He laughed while talking to me. “Stephi, you and I haven’t let our wolves run together in a long time. Why don’t we take them out to play? What do you say, sis?”

I nodded and he ran to the driver’s side of my car, while I refused to give him my keys. This was my baby,

not his. Eventually, I gave into letting my brother drive, as he wouldn’t get out of the driver’s seat.

My brother, unlike my dad, was very intuitive and I am sure he knows that Brock is my mate, and that is the real reason behind my craziness.
