23. Searching for freedom

Paige tries to reassure me but it doesn't work, right now, I didn’t know what was worse, staying a slave for Black night or being permanently without a wolf.

Daryl tried to comfort me but when I pushed him away for the final time, he gets up and leaves, leaving me with someone I barely knew.

Paige tells me that I was grieving for what I could have had, she also tells me she has been working on undoing the curse for nearly a decade and she feels she is getting closer. Her words do not make me feel any better and I stand to leave

“Please don’t go. There will be no one to guard you”

Her words fall flat as I open the door and step out into the darkness. Daryl or Cole were nowhere to be seen along with the car. Glancing back at Paige, I shrug and start walking into the night. Racing after me, she tells me that its not safe and to come back inside but I ignore her and start running, kicking off my shoes as I moved.
