Chapter 56
Nasir was slowing down. We had been running for five days straight. My legs burned as did my shoulders but I refused to stop. I felt Desmond pull hard at the mate bond but I refused to acknowledge it. Refused to let it pull me back. I just kept running. Letting it fuel me to keep going, keeping him and the kids safe was all that mattered. Poor Nasir was not used to cross country running. He did really well and I knew my pace was nowhere near his running speed but the continuous run wore on him.
“Up there, there are some rocks. We will rest there. I know you’re tired. I am too. We can rest and figure out where we are.”
Nasir barked and he pulled up next to me, pushing with one last bit of strength. We all out sprinted towards the jutted out rocks and once we made it, I climbed up. Nasir easily jumped and we sat down, huffing. I laughed as he rolled on his back and stuck his tongue out.

Smoke rose from the clove cigarette I was holding. For the first time in over fifteen years, I needed a smoke and I got one. Janet, the head of the witch coven within the pack, had supplied me with a box she rolled herself. It had been ten days since I saw Olivia. We hadn’t gone this long since the first time she left. My anxiety was at an all time high and even Aamon pacing in the back of my mind was getting to me. Scott and Eli stayed as far away from me as possible unless we had to meet up. I would snap at them without meaning to and while I would apologize after it made them more on edge as well. Iggy came over to try and help but nothing he did worked. We would end up arguing over something stupid and I finally told him in an Alpha command not to come into the pack house again. That was five days ago.Today was the potluck and I was not in the mood to put on a show for people. I wanted to go back to the original plan and just shake down every since person. Playing nice was not in my repertoire right now. Pacing in my office was the only thing holding me together at this point.
