20. An Insulting Move

When I woke up, it was midday. It didn’t feel like my whole body was being consumed by fire nor was there any mind-numbing pain. I was experiencing a strange calmness. At the back of my mind, I knew this was temporary bliss before another wave would wash over my body and once again, I’d have to seek the Alpha. The thought left an unpleasant bitterness in my mouth. 

“How do you feel, Luna?” Georgia’s voice cut through my thoughts. I blinked slowly before turning to the source and realized other than her, Clarissa and Vanessa were also present. They hovered at the foot of the bed while Georgia was given a chair beside the bed to sit. 

“I…” My voice came out raspy. Clarissa scrambled to hand me a glass of water. “Thank you.” I sat up partially, leaning against the headboard, and took a small sip. I avoided Georgia’s concer
