54. Weak Enigma

I fold my arms and wait for his explanation. It’s unusual for him to be injured and not heal. It’s unheard of in the werewolf world. The better the wolf’s rank, the faster they recover, especially an Enigma like him. If he could stomach wolfsbane and not die then something must have happened during the fight. My heart lurches at the thought, but I have my mental block up this time. He won’t get an inkling of what I am feeling at the moment.

He sits on the sofa, hands steepled and elbows on his knees. He doesn’t meet my gaze as he starts speaking.

“After the fight with Ruth… I lost a bit more than my strength.” He pauses, and his gaze flickers to my face before they dart back down.
