Chapter thirty five: dependencyKaren's eyes fluttered open to an unfamiliar room. The pastel colours were a stark contrast form the cold white walls of the servants quarters that she was used to. She looked around, wondering how she had gotten here. She slowly sat up in the bed that felt like fluffy clouds. She was wearing a nightdress that she sure as hell didn't wear when she ran away. Her memories came flooding back. She was running form Kai and his pack, and somehow she had got hit by a car.She looked around the room again. It looked like a princess room, girly and pastel. She didn't like the bright colors. It made her dizzy. She examined her body, there were no injuries. Not even a single bruise. It made her wonder just how long she had been asleep for for all those injuries to heal themselves. The door opened and a woman walked in back first. She saw Karen and gasped. "You're finally awake!" She exclaimed. The woman was petite and older. Her hair was gray cut to shoulder
Thirty six: a new colorThe pastel room didn't bother her three days later. She loved it, the bright colors cheering her up. Karen was starting to transition into Life with Shelly. She found out that Shelly was real estate mogul. She lived in a busy part of the city where there was always some sort of noise. Karen quite liked it. It was different from the pack house that was secluded in the woods.A few days later and she was fully back on her feet. As she observed herself in a mirror she noticed some differences in her body. Her hair had grown very long, passing her waist at this point. Her eyes were livelier, and her skin's glow was back. Her curves looked way fuller. She looked the same, small, demure, soft. She decided she needed a new look if she was going to avoid Kai as much physically possible. That was if he even decided she was worth the trouble of looking for and came after her. Which was highly unlikely by her.She waited in the living room for Shelly to return from work.
Chapter thirty seven:The warrior search party found no trace of Karen anywhere. For two months, Kai sent them back to keep searching. They turned up with nothing. Kai subjected them to even harsher training as a punishment for their incompetence.Seriously how hard was it to find one girl?!"My alpha, we found the maid who aided her escape." Kai got the news as he was inspecting the warriors trainings. The guard who had brought him this information was the one who was in charge of guarding Karen. There had been a lot of mysterious circumstances which Karen disappeared under, Kai suspected that she was aided by someone."Send her to the throne room for a hearing." Kai replied to the guard. "Yes my alpha." Kai saw to the last of the training and headed to the throne room. The traitorous maid was forced to kneel, her hands tied in front of her. Kai assumed his position on his throne, his eyes glaring coldly at her."Where is she?" He asked the maid"I don't know." She replied. "I di
Chapter thirty eight: confessionVerena paced the floors of her room, her mind in deep disarray. It had backfired. Everything she did had backfired. The clever plans, the newly developed drugs, the set up, the poisoning, each and everyone of them backfired. She had thought that by removing Karen, the one blockage in her way that she could have Kai all to herself. She would be reinstated in his life as the one , and soon she would marry him and be crowned Luna.A grave misconception. It now seemed that when Karen was around Kai paid even more mind to Verena. At least back then Kai hadn't been obsessed with the idea of finding a run away slave. But now, everything had changed for the very worst. The weeks had rolled off and before Verena knew it, five months had passed. And in those five months all she saw was Kai getting colder and colder. He no longer spoke to her. He no longer allowed anyone in his suite, not even Nicolas. He poured himself entirely to the pack duties and searching
Chapter thirty nine: castawaysKai's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean you would have killed her yourself?"Verena realized her mistake too late. Her blood ran cold and a shiver coursed through her. She racked her brain for what to say. The throbbing in her face was making it a bit too hard for her to think. "What I mean is ... I would have killed her....instead... " She clamped her hand over her mouth, a horrified gasp leaving her lips."What do you know?" Kai asked, his eyes flashing red. Verena shook her head. She wished desperately that she had shut up. She wished that she could turn back time. "I don't know anything...""Do not make me repeat myself. If you're smart and value your life, you will speak"Verena bit her lip hard till blood flowed into her mouth. She felt raw fear prick her heart with the level of hatred She saw in Kai eyes directed at her. She knew she was fucked up."I did it for you!" She cried out, falling to her knees. "She was destroying you! And you....you h
Chapter forty one: secret lives Kai faced Asher Conan, his face a mask of expressionless. Asher looked shocked to say the least, his eyes travelling between Kai and Nicolas. The day after the truth about Karen's treason was revealed, Kai and Nicolas headed to the Crest pack to seek an audience with Asher himself. "Verena did that?" He gasped, his eyes wide with shock. "I understand that you must have been angry at her but that girl was merely a slave. The daughter of the man who caused you so much pain. Isn't it a good thing that she's gone? Being reminded of that pain every day." Kai wanted to roll his eyes. "Do I tell you how to run your pack?" "No," "Do I tell you what to do with your slaves?" "No " "Then don't tell me what to do with mine." Kai said simply. "That man's daughter or not she was my property. If I chose to have her executed it was to be my own decision wholly and not being manipulated by another." "Young alpha, you should think about his with a calm head."

Chapter forty two: a contractFour years later.Karen walked into the large lobby, her heels clicking on the marble floors, a six pack of coffee in her hand and a bright smile on her face. The receptionist sighted her and smiled. Karen returned the smile with a wave."Good morning Miss Osborne. You looks exceptionally radiant today." The receptionist said."Thank you Kelly, love the new lipstick. Is it Dior rouge 028?" Karen replied and handed her a cup of coffee."You guessed it." Kelly replied with a smile she took the coffee and drank some of it. Her eyes lit up. "Matcha latte! You're the best Miss Osborne."Karen waved. "Nah, it's fine. Have a good day.""You too."Karen nodded and continued walking. She got to the elevator and waited for it to arrive. She glanced at her watch, she still had ten minutes before work started. The elevator dinged and opened. Karen got in, heading to the fifth floor. She drank some of her coffee, staring at her reflection in the steel walls. She looke
