41. Out Of Sight

The day wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

It was so much worse.

It was as if the universe had decided to turn against me.

When I arrived at the diner, I met customers waiting by the door. I had to open the restaurant quickly and initially, I thought it was good that I had a lot of customers coming in to enjoy our new facilities but many more swarmed in, making it difficult for me to catch a breather.

“Can I have another one of today’s specials, Chef Zadie!”

A customer exclaimed as I rushed back into the kitchen with dishes and orders in my hand. Chloe obviously chose the wrong day to be out.

Thankfully, the kitchen's new pieces of equipment were of much help. I was able to come up with easy recipes that would fit the day and also satisfy the customers.

After many hours of standing and cooking, I bid the last customer of the hour farewell. She was a beautiful young woman who had been a regular customer. Before she exited she faced me, “You need to get more hand
