18. A Valueless Female

My eyes widened.

I couldn't help it.

The way he came at me when I entered the house was alarming because I have assumed he didn't care.

And now?

Now he said, “I want you to bother me. Always.”

How could my body not stiffen in his warm arms? If I was still shivering despite the warmth radiating off Ayden’s body as he held me, then it was safe to assume that the shivers existed because of the proximity not because I walked through a storm like an idiot.

The day started with a fire in the pit of my stomach while Ayden and I lost control over our bodies in the dining area. It escalated into a major fire outbreak in my diner when I absentmindedly cooked.

And the heavens thought I had not had enough. They decided to end the day with a storm.

Crazy.

“Ayden–” I began.

He didn't let me talk though. He cut in emotionally, confusing me. “You can't go AWOL, Zadie. Promise me that you will always be home for me.”

He added as he tightened his arms around me, “Promise me, Zadie.”
