NIRVANA

My gaze shifted to an angry black man glaring down at me. Scrambling, I got up on my feet despite my knees still being weak.

One thing I noticed was that my mind still worked despite what I had just been through, and I was about to be run over by a car.

“You’re lucky I did not hit you, bitch.” The man spat out before he walked towards the car, just at least two steps before it crushed me.

“Hey. Give her a break,” said the woman who came to help. “Come with me.”

I had no choice but to walk with her out of the street. I looked around, and yes, I was in the busy street— just the nightmare I avoided. I had a premature jump, and it almost killed me.

“Where are we?” My voice shook, seemingly sounding foreign to me.

She inspected me from head to toe and started throwing a bunch of questions, “Are you okay? What happened to you? You’re disoriented. You don’t look like you’re from around here. And how did you get in the middle of the street? Thank God you didn’t get hurt.”
