Chapter 38. UNEASINESS

ATHENA'S POV

“Scarlet,” it was like all the air was punched out of my lungs when I heard the name leaving Colby's lips. The air grew tense and my body became stiff. The memories of what she had done to me on our first encounter came rushing back as I felt myself feeling a little hard to breathe properly.

“Scarlet?” Xavier asked in confusion. “What's she doing here?”

“I'm not sure, Alpha. She's…very beaten up.” I looked at Xavier to gauge any kind of reaction from him. Sympathy, pity, worry, anything. But his face remained still, and he gave away nothing.

“Alright,” he nodded at Colby. “Go on. We'll be there.” Colby left, and I didn't realize when, but Xavier stood up and held my hand. “You OK?” Shaking my head to break out of the uncomfortable memories, I nodded at him.

“Yeah. Fine,” I couldn't meet his eyes. I don't know, just her being here caused a strange reaction from me. Too many insecurities and questions filled my head and I fought to push them away. I can't deal with them
