My eyes turned saucer when Jarek shifted into a wolf just within the blink of an eye. I don't know what is more surprising, to see a man turning into a wolf, or to find out that this is the same wolf that visited me that night.

But even before I can ponder over it, I grip Charlie tightly in my arms when I watch Jarek charging towards the man who was holding me.

And then everything happens so fast that I don't even have time to blink when Jarek tears that man limb from limb, and within seconds all that is left of that man is nothing but shreds of flesh and bones.

Instinctually, I take a tentative step back to get away from the mess of slaughter that is before me. When a twig breaks beneath my foot, this gets Jarek's attention as his head turns in my direction, causing me to halt in my steps. 

Spitting a chunk of flesh, he looks at me while low growls vibrate from him with each intake of breath. Slowly, he begins walking
