CHLOE'S POV

The blood of Abigail splashed on my face as I tried to pull her down from the thread where she was hanged, but I was unfortunate to pull her down, for before I got to hold her legs, the guards used her as their aiming targets.

Guilt washed over my face as I saw the only girl who picked me and saw me as her confidant was murdered right in front of my eyes. It was unbelievable to see an innocent witch go extinct just because of one's useless culture and traditions.

He walks up to me and squats right before my sight as he watches me mourn over my friend, whom I just lost.

“This isn't the end of you; you just have to brace up and get over everything. Besides, you have a long way to go, starting from now on." He spoke without any guilt in his voice.

With the way he spoke, someone would have thought that he was a saint in this scene. He didn't even feel remorseful for a second, not to mention an iota of anguish in his voice.
