They waited till the darkness had taken over the entire landscape, peeping through the door all they could see was the lights which shone through the hallways and few footsteps around.

For a moment Nicholas cursed the existence of the maids and the servant which lived in the house, he only wished their duties would end just as the darkness creeped in but no, they had to work till close to midnight and awake again before the first light.

And while they waited patiently in the room, their heads were placed against the door just so they could keep up with the footsteps they heard.

Slowly the footsteps faded away, and the hallway became quiet with just mere chatters from the maids who he claimed were known for their gossips.

Nicholas held the door knob and opened again, this time he did it slowly to avoid the screeching sound of the door being heard and drawing attention to themselves.
