Chapter 21 | Too Late

Amelia

After I got dressed, Maven and I walk quietly to my small apartment behind the corridor. We enter the corridor and I open the door to my room, and he stands in my doorway awkwardly.

I turn toward him and see his eyes glancing around the room. I haven’t done anything to change it, so I don’t know what it is that he’s looking for. His eyes land on me and he pulls something out of his pocket as he says, “Here, I thought this would be good for you.”

I see a brand-new phone in the palm of his hand and my eyes widen in surprise. He smiles at me as I carefully take it out of his hand. He tells me, “My number’s on there so if you’re ever ready to come out of here you can let me know. Maggie’s number is on here too in case you need her and I’m sure she could get Sophie’s number for you if you want it.”

My smile is wide as I say, “Thank you, Alpha Maven, this means a lot.”

He nods and says, “I think you should take a few days off, Amelia, and just… lay low.”
