Chapter 59 : The Shifter in the Shadows

The world was crumbling, and it was all I could do to hang on.

“Bryan!” I screamed, looking around frantically for the young shifter. The water rushed around me, and I struggled to keep my head above the surface. “Bryan!”

Chunks of the bridge, blackened with soot and jagged from the explosion, flowed angrily down the river, caught in the vicious current. I dodged a sharp piece of stone and attempted to swim towards the riverbank on what I hoped was the south side of the river. I was so turned around that I couldn’t be sure, but I knew that it was better to be on dry land than to be stuck in the freezing rapids.
