At first, Ryan couldn’t credit what he was hearing and stood there staring into Taylor’s crib as though if he stared hard enough, she was going to materialize out of thin air and appear back in her crib. The drive down to the police station was very tense. Ryan sat in front with the driver as they drove through the lonely streets and towards the station, while Margie sat in the back muttering prayers under her breath. Ryan had never been a religious person, but at this point, he would gladly pray for hours if it would mean that Taylor would be brought back. He had referred to her as his daughter, and he now realized that that was exactly what she was.
