After dinner, we head out, walking to the council building. We stand outside, looking across the street at the building. “So, do we care if any other council members are in attendance and see you or not?” I ask Drake. “I think if we can get in and out without anyone seeing me, that would be ideal,” he says. I pull my cell phone out of my pocket and dial the main number. Because it’s dark and the lights inside the building are on, I can see the woman at the front desk answer the phone. “You have reached the offices of the supernatural council members. My name is Suzie. How may I help you?” the woman asks. “Hi, Suzie. My name is Leah. I know it’s late, but I was wondering if any of the council members are in at the moment?” I say, giving her a fake name. “I’m sorry. They are all gone for the day. I can tell that Leana had no idea that vampires had the ability to attach themselves to the ceiling. In truth, you have to be a powerful vampire to do it. I always thought it was a fun trick after I became a vampire. I would practice walking on the ceiling in my grandfather’s castle. Giovanni used to get mad at me, telling me to stop sneaking up on him like a spider, which only made the game more fun for me. Thankfully, Leana stays quiet as the two people enter the room. Her legs are wrapped around me, the documents from my grandfather in between our bodies. She has a straight shot looking down at them, but I have to turn my head. It took Drake hours to replace all the bite marks on my body. Okay, let’s be honest, we got totally turned on and had to stop and have sex several times during the process, so it took much longer than it would have if he had just bitten me. I’m not sure how I feel about how aroused I get when Drake’s fangs sink into my body. I can only imagine what it will feel like to have his fangs sink into my marking spot. I had been watching to make sure none of my father’s men followed Leana and her Aunt Grace. However, having a Guardian in attendance at the council has thrown my father into a frenzy and he pulled all his men back earlier today. So, I’m standing across the street from the restaurant where my mate and her aunt are eating, watching from the shadows when Guardian Grace asks Leana about me. How the hell did she see me? “You don’t need to lie to me, Leana. I walk Aunt Grace to the elevator. She pushes the button then turns to me. “You know, I don’t think you’re giving your mother enough credit. You should give her a chance, or, at the very least, you should tell Rich. He’s your Alpha. But your mother loves you. She will always love you. She understands the mate bond and your mate seems like a good man. Give her a chance,” she says as the elevator opens. I reach out and hug her, holding on tightly. “Thanks, Aunt Grace. For everything.” “You’re welcome. I’ll see you at Emlyn’s birthday party?” “Absolutely.” “With your mate?” she asks. “Uhhh,” I begin. “At least tell Rich before then. Over the next month, Leana and I move into our new home. The days go by much too fast and the nights that I spend devouring and enjoying my mate go by even faster. Leana turns our little apartment into a cozy home, a place that I want to come to, to be with her at night. Her scent is everywhere inside making our place that much better. She agreed to let me buy all new furniture, after a bit of arguing. Since, it’s not the place I want to give her, she agreed to make me happy. She’s as happy here as I am and I think I finally understand the saying ‘old married couple’. She and I quickly get into a pattern of fixing up our apartment, around her stopping into the council nearly every day while I go shopping for more furniture. As I run to my pack, I feel like I’ve left my heart with Drake. I stop in the woods, pulling clothes out of my bag to change into. I don’t want the pack to see the vampire bite marks all over my body. When I arrive at the packhouse, I’m surprised to see my brother, Cayd, waiting for me. “Hey Lea, good to see you,” he says, pulling me into a hug. “Cayd, are you waiting for me?” I ask hoping he can’t smell Drake’s scent on me.
