Seems like Leana is finally starting to get in touch with her true power.
I come awake, feeling snuggly and surrounded by the scent of my mate. “Finally,” I hear Drake say quietly. I open my eyes, and look into his concerned ones. “Where are we?” I ask. “Home,” he says. “What happened?” I ask, trying to remember. “You and Kella showed all those witches and warlocks what it means to go against a Guardian,” he says. The memory comes slowly. “The wall, the barrier.” “Yes, you pushed your power into it and it impacted every witch and warlock whose magic was in the barrier,” he says. “How did we get out of there?” “When your power blasted the wall, it also impacted the powerful witches that had put their magic into it, knocking them out. The weaker ones wanted nothing to do with me, so I raced off with you, getting you safe before trying to find my sister,” he says. I lift my head off his chest. “Did you find her?” “No. But I have a general idea of where she’s going,” he says. “So, what’s the plan?” I ask, sitting up and immediately feeling dizzy. “
When I left Leana, not at all happy that she is planning to confront my father, I raced back to the last spot where I smelled my sister’s scent. Her scent is strange, cold, like a vampire’s but also with an earthy, herbal scent which must come from the witch side. Although the other witches’ scents don’t smell good to me, my sister’s does. I follow the scent to the next town, slowly making my way through, staying in the shadows. I find the remnants of humans that my sister has drained and left to rot. I quickly clean up the mess, disposing of the bodies. I realize that she was starving. I’m guessing the witches were trying to feed her human food, not feeding her human blood. I work my way through the town, stopping at the local bar, and ordering a whiskey so I can hear any rumors that are going around. There are several about Ennata, some about a beautiful girl who stopped briefly, and some about the wild animal that has been attacking people. They don’t seem to realize that they are
I knew Drake was going to search for vampire clans around the area where we found the witch city. I’m nervous, feeling the need to be with him, protect him, but I’m also feeling the need to help my family. We’re being attacked on multiple sides and right now, the issue between Rich and Emlyn takes center stage. So, rather than joining my mate to search for the vampire clans that may be going against the Guardians, I’m here in Rich’s office waiting for Alpha Carter and Beta Trevor to arrive. I’ve been working to get the pack back to normal. It didn’t take Gwen any time at all to make a complete mess of it. And, once a day, I go to check on her. Three days after being put in the cells, she’s still demanding to be released, demanding to see Rich, to speak to him. Every day, I tell the guards to keep her there. Xander has been out searching for the witch, so I’m taking the lead in dealing with Gwen. When they arrive, Beta Jackson escorts them to Rich’s office. Beta Trevor, Gwen’s father,
I follow Lady Mehira out of the hotel, much to the chagrin of the humans who see us. Mehira doesn’t hide her sex appeal and based on the conversations that I heard from the humans, they recognize that she’s from the castle on the hill. As she walks, people stop talking, standing to watch as she passes, and me as well. “You,” she says to a very attractive man whose blood smells sweet even from here. He falls in line behind us, pumping his fist to his friends. “You,” she says to a beautiful woman whose blood smells similarly to the man’s, sweet like honey, and she raises her chin and falls into line behind us. “Hey. Hey!” the guy behind me stage whispers. I turn and look at him as Mehira continues to call to the ones whose blood smells the sweetest. I’m not sure if that’s the draw, or if that’s just the draw tonight, but it’s obviously what she’s looking for. “We’re the elite man,” he says, putting his fist out toward me. I frown at him and turn back around. “Dude, don’t be a dick
When I walk in, I see that the back sliders are open and my mother has a bottle of wine with two glasses on the back deck. “Come sit with me,” she says, walking out back. “When are dad and the others due home?” I ask. She picks up the wine and looks at me. I nod and come to sit down. “I linked your father and asked him to give me an hour before he brings them back. So now, we have plenty of time,” she says, handing me a glass of red wine and pouring herself one before she sits down. I stare out at the back of the my parents’ yard as I take a sip of wine. My father wanted privacy after running the pack for so long, so the yard is large and bumps up against the forest. It's a beautiful area, peaceful. I notice that my mother opened my favorite bottle of wine as I take a second sip of wine and lean back, not looking at her. “I met my mate,” I say, waiting for her to respond. “And since this doesn’t seem to be a joyous occasion, I’m guessing something happened?” she asks. I can fee
“How did you know my grandfather?” I ask King Kazimir. “He and I fought many battles in our lifetime together. When you live as long as I have, you’ve been in many battles. In the beginning, we were on opposite sides. Your grandfather always believed that we were more than the monsters we are, that we could be better than what we’ve been made into. I didn’t start out that way. I loved the power and strength of being a vampire. I loved that I could take what I wanted without a care in the world. So, in the beginning, we fought. Then, one day, I was captured by humans that found out about vervain. They weakened me and were starving me, letting me die slowly. I found out later that I had killed their family members, some spouses, some children, some parents,” he says looking at me. “As I said, I didn’t care back then.” “You’re not the same person you used to be, father,” the Prince says, watching his father. His mate is now sitting on his lap, but not in a sexual way. She’s leaning agai
My entire family was supportive of Drake, which makes me excited for them to meet him. I promised that I would introduce them soon, knowing that Drake will be very excited to meet my family. When I speak to Drake, I find out that King Kazimir was friends with King Urien. He apparently was close enough that Kazimir knows about Ennata. Drake was nervous at first, but then we talked about it and decided that if his grandfather trusted King Kazimir with the information about his sister, then Drake should trust him too. He told me that he was heading south with Prince Reyes and would be in touch. “I finally told my mother about you,” I tell him. He’s quiet a moment. “And? How did Guardian Angel take the news that her daughter is mated to a vampire?” “She wants to meet you,” I tell him. “To kill me?” he asks, making me laugh. “No. She wants to meet my mate. She said your grandfather spoke highly of you.” “I would be honored to meet her,” he says. “Well, it’s not just her. I’m a packa
When King Kazimir mentioned my sister, I had once again gotten defensive, ready to fight. He had raised his hands in a placating gesture, watching me closely. “I only ask because I know your grandfather wanted to find her and because you’ll know that if he told me, he trusted me with that information,” Kazimir says. “And did he trust everyone in this room as well?” I ask, looking at the four others in the room. “Mehira and Jael are my most trusted warriors. My son would never go against me, unlike your father, and his mate would never go against him. Even if she started to say something she shouldn’t, Reyes would be able to deter her,” he says, smiling at Marlene to take the sting out of his words. “I know I’m only human, but I know how to keep a secret. I just don’t understand why she’s a secret,” Marlene says, shrugging. “She’s family, right?” I look around the room. “Why don’t you rest, think about it overnight. If you decide that you can trust us, then we can speak of your s
