Chapter 11

Amber

Alex, Edison, and I emerge from the maze world, coughing as thick smoke assaults our lungs. We are back in the living room, but something isn’t right. Everyone is coughing, straining to see through the fog, and then staring at us with wide eyes as if not expecting us to be there.

I don’t see Emma anywhere, but I see the guy with the hood. He is the one who wrote our names on the list and had us teleported to the maze. He is also the first to speak, shrieking and stammering, “Y-you’re back? But how? I-I didn’t think you would return—”

Alex grabs the collar of his shirt before he can utter another word and lifts him off the ground. The muscles in his arms bulge, and Edison moves close to me.

“By the Gods... Your mate is extremely powerful...” He says warily, eyeing Alex with newfound respect and even a bit of fear. “It’s perhaps fortunate he chose not to fight me within the labyrinth. He isn’t even in his purest form, yet he has the strength to hoist a man over two hundred pounds
