Chapter Thirteen

Mrs. Winnie sat at the table, her brow furrowed with worry, as she slowly sipped her coffee. Her thoughts seemed consumed by something troubling, causing a distant look in her eyes. Suddenly, Sarah entered the dining area and took a seat beside her.

"Mom, remember you asked me to look into the hospital payment to know if it came from dad?" Sarah asked, her voice tinged with concern, as she flung the paper in her hand onto the table.

Mrs. Winnie's expression softened, her eyes lighting up with anticipation. "Yes, what happened? Did you find out? Was it him?" she inquired eagerly.

Sarah's face broke into a smile as she nodded. "So, the name on the account was Dad," she concluded, her voice filled with reassurance.

"I knew it!" Winnie exclaimed, frustration evident in the way she hit her hands on her lap, confirming her suspicions. "That old hag lied to me. I'm going to go rip him a new one," she concluded, her anger palpable.
