BASTIAN
I've been at work a total of 20 minutes and I already have a massive headache.
I'm looking at the stiff seated across from me in front of my desk. Rambling on about his magic rehabilitation program that's going to miraculously cure the crazy Dragons in the prison.
I'm leaning in my chair. My elbow on the arm with my fingertips on my temple.
I'm totally not listening to his shit.
He pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "Alpha, I can see in your face, that you don't take this seriously."
"I do. I just don't give a shit, Doctor." I say with an uncaring look on my face.
Rennet sits up. "Look. This is the best thing for these people. They don't deserve this. Torrent forced them to fight for him...."
I lean on my desk. "Bullshit."
"You don't believe that they could be forced to fight?" Rennet arches his brow.
"No. I don't." I sit back, folding my arms.
"Why's that, Alpha?" He sits back and crosses his leg.
I get up and walk around my desk. "You don't brutally murder over 800 people under duress, doctor. No one forced these people to do anything." I lean on the front of my desk in front of Rennet.
"You're assuming everyone here participated in the murders, Alpha. My reports will find those who had little participation and those who are suffering because of it." He adjusted his glasses again.
I cross my arms. "I don't care what your little reports say, doctor. They're all just as sick as their sick fuck of a leader. As far as I'm concerned, they can rot in here until they die and join Torrent in hell where they belong." I push off my desk and walk back to my chair.
Rennet stands. Buttoning his jacket. "You're making a big mistake, Alpha. Keeping innocent people locked up will just turn them into criminals."
I open some files. "I told you before, doctor. If you think the people in here are innocent, you need a shrink just as bad as they do."
I stand and grab my jacket. I slip it on and button it. "Come on. I'll show you to your office."
We walk down the halls of the Prison offices. I come to a door not far from the back where the prison is.
I unlock the door and open it. Turning on the light. The doctor walks by me.
"If there's anything you need, just call my secretary." I say, watching him open his briefcase.
"Actually, Alpha. I would like to get started right away." He pulls out a list and hands it to me. "I need access to these prisoners."
I grab his paper and read it. Two names stuck right out. "No. No fucking way. Anyone one else, but these two."
The doctor folds his arms. "Cole Karver and Cain Brindle are the foundation for my profile. I'll need them to compare the innocent against."
I lean to him. "Find another way. You aren't getting a second with Karver or Brindle."
I hand him back his paper and walk out of his office, closing the door behind me.
I shake my pounding head. I can't wait to get home.
****
I pull into driveway and I practically crash my damn car.
I slam my car into park and get out. Slamming the door and stomping to the giant eyesore outside my fucking house.
It's rusted out. I'm sure it's leaking something on my driveway. I look into the side window of the beat up, old truck to see who the fuck I need to kill. I can't see anything so I decide I need to knock some heads inside to get this trash out of my sight.
I was about to walk in when the decorator comes out. I stop in my tracks when I see her wearing a small, pink skirt and a nice white short-sleeved button down. I can't help but notice the buttons straining a little against the pull of her nice sized chest. Her hair is pinned up nicely too. Her look is a far cry from what I saw yesterday.
I shake my head as I remembered. I'm pissed.
"Hey! Is that piece of shit yours?" I yell as I approach her.
"Excuse me?" She looks shocked at me.
I point to the truck. "That. That junk truck. Is it yours?" I glare at her.
"Yes, it is." She admits.
I lean down to her face. "Get it the fuck out on my driveway now."
"I was just unloading supplies for the ballroom. This door is closer." She folds her arms.
"I don't fucking care. I have a staff entrance for a fucking reason." I point to her chest "You use it."
She ticks her jaw. "Fine."
She pushes past me to the truck.
I turn around. "You know, a successful decorator really should be able to afford a decent car." I smirk.
She stops and turns around. "This truck means something to me. I'm sure someone like you wouldn't know what that means."
She spins around. Her chocolate brown hair spinning out with her. She gets in the truck and drives around to the back of the house.
I shake my head and walk into my house.
"Nigel!!" I yell as I take off my jacket.
Nigel comes out of the common room. "You're home early."
"Tylenol now." I bark. I head to the dining hall.
I sit at a table, rubbing my temples. I don't normally get headaches, but my blood pressures through the roof and my wolf hasn't laid off me for the last two days. I think I'll have to run him later.
As I wait for my pain killers, I hear a voice I really don't want to hear right now.
"You know, you can stop yelling at any time."
I lean back and sigh. "Hello, Caroline."
"Alpha"
Caroline Wiles. My lover on most nights when I'm not at the bar picking up twins.
She slips her fit body into the chair across from me. Her long blonde hair pulled over her shoulder. Her sexy face leaning on her hands as her elbows perch on the table top.
I eye her. "What do you want, Caroline?" I'm really not in any mood.
She sits back. "Nothing, Bastian. I'm just concerned. You seem quite stressed."
"Right." I smirk.
She tilts her head. "Is it so hard to believe I care about you."
I lean on the table. "Yes. What do you want?"
She smiles. "Ok. You got me, Bastian." She gets up and walks around the table. She slides into my lap. Wrapping her arms around my neck. Her face close to mine.
She plays with my hair and kisses my neck. In an innocent baby like voice, she looks at me. "It's my birthday next week and I wanted to know if you were throwing me a party."
My hand ran up her leg to her ass as my dick swelled in my pants.
Her fingers gently ran across the exposed skin of my partly unbuttoned shirt. Her lips played with mine.
My hand ran up into her hair and pulled it back hard, making her let out a little moan.
I nipped at the soft skin of her neck. I ran my tongue up her neck and to her mouth. I kissed her deep. Shoving my tongue down her throat. I pulled back, biting on her full bottom lip.
"Is that a yes?" She pants.
I let go of her lip. "No." I push her off me.
"What?" She scowls. "Bastian?"
"Caroline. I don't have time to throw you fucking party, Ok? I've got more important things to worry about. Get one of your other boy toys to do it."
"You're an asshole." She frowns.
I roll my head to her and smirk. "Yeah, but I got what you need. Cold, hard cash."
"Ugh." She turns and storms out.
I chuckle to myself. I may be an ass, but I'm honest. I know she doesn't give a shit about me. But she's a good lay, so I keep her around. Women like her are a dime a dozen. They're just around for Luna and the money.
I rub my forehead. Nigel drops the pills and a water bottle on the table.
"Thanks." I pop the pills in my mouth and pound back half the bottle of water.
Nigel sits on the table. "Bad day?"
"You have no idea." I shake my head. "By the way, don't allow the staff to park in front."
He puts his hands up. "Hey, I just didn't want her to hurt herself. She had a lot of boxes."
"Whatever. I don't want junk cars in front of the house. It looks bad" I lean on the table.
"Ok. But your stress really can't be a junk truck. What's going on?" He leaned his hands on the table.
I put my bottle down and lean back. "The ball. The Head Alpha position. The shrink crawling around my prison trying to find Dragons to release. The decorator driving me insane. My wolf going nuts......"
He looked at me confused. "How can Sam drive you nuts she's only been here for two days?"
"Yeah, and in those two days, she's turned my house in a strip club try out and junk yard. Plus, she yelled at me. It made me mad." I rest my hands together on my lap.
Nigel snorts. "Are you sure you're mad and not something else?"
"What do you mean?" I arch a brow.
"You sure you don't want her?" He smiles
"What? No. She's so far from my type. I mean, yeah, she's hot. But she has no style. No class. Look at her truck. God, no. I wouldn't be caught dead with a chick like that." I glance up at Nigel and he's looking past me.
I turn toward where he's looking and Sam's standing in the doorway. Our eyes lock for a moment before she turns on her heels and disappears. I turn back to Nigel.
He looks down at me. "You, uh, you going to go talk to her or...."
"Why? We're not dating." I adjust myself in my seat. I can feel him staring at me.
I glance up and he's not letting this go.
I sigh. "Fine." I slam my bottle back down on the table and walk out of the room.
I enter the ballroom and she's leaned over the table looking at designs.
I stuff my hands in my pockets and walk into the room slowly.
"Hey, um.... I'm sorry you heard that." I thumb over my shoulder.
She raises her head, but doesn't turn. "It's fine."
"No really. I didn't mean...."
She turns around. She holds her chin up. "It's fine. Really. You're entitled to your opinion. It's not my place to question it."
I move closer. "Why does it feel like that's a lie?"
She leans on the table. "It's not. You're not attracted to me and that's good. I'm not attracted to you either."
I give a half smile. "As long as we understand each other."
"I mean you're my client. Even if I was...." Her face gets that deer in the lights look again as I step closer.
I'm hit with this exotic scent. I've smelled hundreds of women, but this. It's like gardenias, but there's something almost alien behind it. I can't pin point it at all. All I know it's like a fucking drug. My wolf is completely subdued. Her scent swirls around me like smoke. It infects my brain more as I get closer.
I lower my head a bit and lock her eyes. "It would never happen...."
"Never...." She says quietly.
I'm mere inches from her. Pictures of me tearing her clothes off with my teeth slam my brain.
I lean closer to her face. I can feel her breath on my lips. "Never....happen...."
She lets out a quiet shaky breath.
"Bastian!"
I turn around and Caroline is standing in the doorway. Tapping her foot with her arms crossed.
I look back at Sam. "Uh...I'm...sorry. I got to go." I thumb toward Caroline.
She straightens up and avoids looking at me. "Um...yes. Well, thank you." She glances at me quick. I catch those amazing doe eyes for a second before I turn to meet Caroline in the hallway.
I give my head a shake and follow Caroline out of the area quick.
SAMMYI drag Lisa to my office.Lisa is my best friend. We do everything together and when we need help with a job, she's there.I yank her in and check for the guys. I shut the door.Lisa fixes her fire red, short hair. "What is it, Sammy?! You're acting crazy."I'm pacing my office floor, chewing on my finger nail.Lisa is parked on the edge of my desk. "Sammy!"I start to whine shaking my hands nervously. "Lisa. I don't know......"She stands and grabs my arms. "Ok. Breathe. Just tell me what happened.""He almost kissed me." I stared into her blue eyes."Who?" She searched my face.I swallow. "The Alpha." I squeak."Get out!" She pushes me. "Oh my God! Sammy, this is awesome!""No. Lisa, this is horrible. I mean if it wasn't for this woman coming into the room, stopping him, I could've really crossed that line. I can't let that happen." I was worried about what this attempt by The Alpha meant.I won't lie. I wanted it to. So bad. My lips practically ached for his. If that's even p
BASTIANIt's been a couple of weeks since I stepped foot in the ballroom.I've been getting reports from Nigel on the progress.Since my encounter with Sam, I've been trying to avoid her. I feel her just under the surface of my skin. She gets deeper with every encounter and she seems to push away even more. So, I think I need to stay away.Besides, right now I have bigger fish to fry.Like trying to reign in this fucking doctor. This morning I found out he went above my head and set up meetings with Karver and Brindle. This is why I'm storming his office right now.I throw open his door. "Who told you could see Karver?" I growl. He's sitting behind his desk all cool and collected. Which is irritating the fuck out of me."Fredericks gave me the permission. Honestly, Alpha. I don't know why you're so concerned." He fixed his suit.I lean on his desk. "Those two are the most dangerous son of bitches on the fucking planet. I don't want them even knowing what fucking day it is, let alone c
BASTIANI'm standing in the foyer, waiting. I'm wanting to go the ballroom, but I have a meeting. One I don't even want to be in.Nigel comes in and Luke Jackson walks in behind him."Alpha Jackson. Nice of you to come." I stride up to meet him.Luke's looking around. "I always knew you'd live in a castle, Bastian. It's about the only thing that would fit your head."He gives me that stupid smart-ass smirk."Well, I imagine it would be hard to keep a place this nice in Red Rock with all the criminals blowing things up." I arch my brow as Luke's ticks his jaw."You want to talk about the Enforcers or what?" He grits."My office is this way" I lead him through the halls of the offices.I open the door to my white marble stone office.Luke looks around. "Yeah. This is you." He snorts."Sit." I bark.He sits in the chair opposite me and I give him the rundown of what I expect from the Enforcers set up.We talk about numbers and how many separate units I would need for a pack this size.It
SAMMY"No. Come on." I thump my head on the steering wheel of my truck.I'm in the middle of the front driveway of the pack house and it just stalled out.I heave a heavy sigh and blow a lock of hair out of my face. I pull my hair up into a ponytail.I get out and open the hood. I get up and under it, trying to find the problem."Hey! What did I say about that thing?"I back out of the engine compartment and look toward an angry Bastian stomping toward me."I know. But it's not like I did it on purpose." I scowl in frustration."What happened?" He crosses his arms.I jump down off the front bumper. "I don't know. It just stalled out." I motion to the truck.I'm really not in any mood for this because I'm freaking exhausted. Since my lunch with Bastian, I haven't slept properly because now I dream about him constantly and it's starting to get irritating. Not only that, but he's at the front of my mind everyday too. I can barely get any work done.He rolls up his sleeves. "Move." He dem
BASTIANMy wolf was already crazy this week as I've been wrapped up with that damn doctor at the prison. His incessant reports just keep coming and I have Fredericks pushing me to accommodate the fucking guy.He still bugs me to no end. I don't know why, but I feel like he's hiding something. I did a background check and everything does checkout, but before he turned 18, it was like he never existed. I can't even find his damn birth certificate. He spends all his time in the prison. Having private conversations with the Dragons here. I wish I could hear those conversations, but the good Doctor keeps his interactions under wraps.I've been keeping an eye on him closely, but if he is hiding anything, he's good at it.After wracking my brain, I felt I needed to see Sammy. I don't know why, but my wolf really likes her.Seeing her in her white business skirt and pink blouse, had me stirring inside. The pressure in my pants increased when she had her back to me and I saw the faint outline
SAMMY"Mom. It'll be fine." I say as I pack a suit case."Samantha, you can't do this. What if you have an episode?" She's following me around my room in a panic."Mom's right, Sam" Dylan’s sitting on my bed."I know she's right. That's why you're moving in with me." I look at Dylan. He straightened up. "Me. At the pack house? Are you nuts?"I scoff. "Apparently."My mom stood in front of me. "They won't understand Sam. This is a bad idea.""Dylan can watch me Ok. He knows what to do. It's fine." I push past her."Mom. This is an opportunity of a lifetime. For me. For us." I motion to Dylan. "We can't turn this down."I look at Dylan. "Eric's already on board. I signed for it. We're moving. Get packing."I demand Dylan go pack while I take my bags to the truck."I hope you know what you're doing." My mom says as she hugs me. "You call me. For anything at any time.""I will." I smile and get in the truck. "Dylan let's go!" I yell.Dylan comes out and tosses his duffle back in the box o
BASTIANAlright. I may have crossed a line at the pool. I couldn't help it. When I saw Sam in that tiny black bikini, my wolf went insane. I wanted to rip the eyeballs out of every male there.I had to shut her down before I ended up doing something even more stupid than I already did.I mean, I had no business talking to her like that. She's not mine. Though it feels like my wolf really wants her to be.I just couldn't take the unmated males on my staff eyeing up her goods. It's also the reason I made sure she got the room with the private bathroom. I had to pay the head chef double the weeks' pay to get him to move out. He wasn't happy. I'm on the hook to have a bathroom installed in his room so he doesn't quit on me.Sammy is special. I don't know how, but I need to keep her close. I feel this need that she needs to kept safe. Needs to be protected for some reason. I feel some inner connection building. I just hope I haven't pissed her off too much. She's been avoiding me all week.
SAMMY I slept for the whole day and most of the night. I woke with a growling stomach. I threw on some slippers and a robe over my pajamas. I snuck downstairs to the kitchen to try and find something. Anything to eat. I found some left over pot roast. I sat on the floor against the fridge and shoved pieces of it into my mouth. Mouthful after mouthful. I ate like I hadn't eaten in a month. "You know. The chef's going to be pissed when he finds out." With my cheek stuffed, I turn my head to the voice. Bastian comes out of the darkness. "What?" My face full of embarrassment and shock. He chuckles as he sits down on the floor and leans against a cabinet. He's wearing track pants with no shirt. His hair pulled up high on his head. "I couldn't sleep so I was doing paperwork by the fireplace. I was surprised to see this tiny woman sneaking around in the dark." I blush and offer the leftovers. He takes out a piece. "Thanks." He mumbles with a full cheek. "So, you're awake." I nod.
