CHAPTER NINETY-NINE - FAMILY

Cassy POV

“You are late!” Oakley demanded when she saw us jogging through the field on the way to their classroom.

As Oakley puts it, we were late. Their class had been dismissed fifteen minutes ago, and most of the students were long gone except for a handful whose fetchers had not arrived.

Some were in the playground, while others waited on the benches facing the playground. Our children occupy one of the benches.

Their teacher sat with them while they waited for us outside.

She and her brother were sitting on a bench. Oakley swung her legs back and forth in impatience.

After apologizing to their teacher for the inconvenience, we faced our mad daughter to soothe her ruffled nerves.

“Sorry honey, we were delayed at the office.” I shot Caleb an accusing look over Oakley’s head, daring him to disagree.

If he had not teased me and chased after me all over the house, we would not be this late. Caleb roared back in laughter. The man sure looked happy.
