Matthew’s body was weak after taking all the hits. His left arm was clearly broken, he couldn’t even move it. His neck was being held and choked by the demon.
Matthew could see her smirk through the small slit of his eyelashes. It pained his heart if it were to end like this. He barely even got to see what this world had to offer. Over the past year, he had spent his time at the academy. He hasn't started his adventure yet.
It was a pity.
Before he knew it, he was suddenly thrown to the ground. The impact hurt his already aching body even more. He groaned in pain. With his blurry vision, he tried to trace back what Marie was doing.
He saw Yuki firing a barrage of arrows at Marie, staggering her with every hit. It was amazing to see her. But it all became grim when Yuki ran out of arrows and almost as soon as she did, Marie stabbed her with her claws.

Rose slowly lifted her head. Her face was as red as a strawberry. Her heart was racing since the moment she pretended to be asleep, on top of that, Matthew had been staring at her for a while. It made her nervous. She questioned herself. ‘Why did I pretend to sleep?’ She could have just greeted Matthew as soon as he woke up. However the thought of the words she was saying by herself and she did to him earlier made her embarrassed.A few minutes ago…Rose entered the ward after a nurse opened the door for her. She thanked the nurse and the nurse nodded before leaving. Rose watched Matthew who was sleeping on the bed. His arm and head was covered in bandages and his body had many bruises.Rose bit her lips, thinking about how bad his condition was. She walked over the right side of the bed that had a stool beside it and sat on it.She stared at Matthew’s fa
“Alright, you may be discharged as of today,” said the nurse behind the counter as she returned a Hunter tag to its owner.“Thank you,” Matthew said while retrieving his tag. He turned around and walked towards Rose and Cecilia who were waiting by the benches. “Kinda costly I gotta say.” Matthew said.“How are you feeling Matthew?” Cecilia asked in a shy manner.“I’m good. Thanks for worrying about me. Are you okay?” Matthew asked back.Cecilia nodded and shook her head. “I don’t know. I don’t really remember what happened. Last thing I saw was Phillip and me. On a couch in his mansion and then… Nothing.”Matthew felt anger welling up inside him but he quickly suppressed it. He put on a smile. “At least you’re okay now.” Cecilia flushed and looked away.
In a castle in a far away land. The throne room.“Report,” said a figure of shadow that was standing in front of the throne.“Yes. The army under my command is well underway to have the number we require. However, this may still take a few months, maybe even a year. On that note, the demon clan still fights among each other and other races for power supremacy.” A large bulky figure gave its report. Its long tail swayed from side to side while its scales slightly reflected the fire light..“Troublesome but not worth the effort. Next?”A tall slender female figure stepped up. Her wings were folded behind her and her hair was tied back in a ponytail. “That goes the same for my division. They are getting impatient and sometimes end up killing each other. However, I have it under my control.”“That’s good to hear. At least we
“Welcome home, sir and misses!” Bowed the black haired maid upon the Hunters’ arrival. Matthew, Yuki, Cecilia and Rose all looked confused about the behaviour of the maid.Matthew turned to Gustav who was the one that brought them here today with a face saying, “what is the meaning of this?” without actually saying a word.Gustav chuckled seeing the Hunters’ confusion. “Lord Phillip was the single child of the Crane family. He does not have any more relatives aside from the siblings on his mother’s side and no children either. Therefore there was no one who is legal to inherit the possessions of the House. Except for one.” He explained and turned to Cecilia at the end.“Cecilia was already registered by Phillip as his wife, dreadfully. But on the other hand that means that Cecilia is the one and only person that can legally inherit the House of Crane’s pos
Sunlight pierced between the leaves of the canopy of the forest. Mushy sounds popped as feet stepped into the squishy forest floor. The air was humid in the summer heat after a not so recent downpour. Sweat trickled down the necks of the Hunters.“Are we there yet~?” Cecilia asked in a tired manner.“Just a little bit more.” Matthew answered.“That's what you said last time. And the time before that.” She kept on whining.“That’s because it hasn’t even been five minutes between each time. We’re almost there, trust me. I already remember the route.” Matthew kept dredging forwards. Meanwhile Cecilia looked like she was about to stumble over her own foot.As tired as she was, Cecilia pushed herself to keep up with Matthew. ‘Maybe I should do more exercises,’ she thought.A few more min
“Good afternoon to all of you.” The Grandmaster of the academy started his speech. “I would like to thank you all for coming on this memorable day. As you know, today is when you will officially graduate from the academy and become full time Hunters. I must say that even though the numbers had skyrocketed by more than 40% than the previous years’ candidates. However, that did not stop from…” The Grandmaster’s voice trailed off as Matthew was not really paying attention anymore.Matthew covered his mouth and yawned. It has barely been five minutes and he was already sleepy even though he was just fine a moment ago. His eyes wandered around the vast hall where all the students were gathered to celebrate the graduation of their comrades. Rose was sitting on the girls’ side of the hall, so she was nowhere near Matthew.Matthew stretched his legs and cracked his knuckles to get rid of the sleepines
About an hour later, Matthew was walking towards the front gate with a backpack on his back. Matthew and Rose had agreed to meet up here before heading back to the mansion together, but it seemed that she was not here yet.“Typical girls. Always takes their time.” Matthew muttered.Matthew put down his pack and rested it by the wall. Then he also rested his back on the wall while waiting for Rose.If this was back in his home world, he would be checking out his phone for chats or videos or memes but that was impossible here. A thing he learned here was that the technology in this world is about the same as his, but also vastly different. The functions were the same but how they operate was different. For example, the microphone converts vibrations into electricity by using certain electronic and mechanical components. In this world however, the microphone itself directly converts sound in
“A delivery quest?” Cecilia asked to confirm what Matthew had said.Matthew and Rose had just arrived from the academy and the group was now inside the living room of Cecilia’s mansion.“Yup, we gotta deliver this box to an old man somewhere in the desert of San Coro. The old man gave a map too.” Matthew lifted his hand that was holding the map.“I thought you said you wanted to lay low for a while.” Yuki said.“Well, yeah, but everyone’s talking about their quests back at the academy. And since we already have a quest right, I thought we might as well.” Matthew said. Matthew hid the fact that he couldn’t hold himself back anymore especially after all that Isaac said.“And you just let him, Rose?” Yuki glanced at Rose.Rose shrugged her shoulders.“There&r
