CHAPTER TWENTY: LEO

Austin and I met in the parking lot at the end of the school day to drive to my apartment for our school project. He kept staring at me as we walked to my truck, as if he was trying to figure me out.

"Okay, I will bite. Why are you staring at me like that?".

"Like what?"

"Like um some puzzle you are trying to figure out, but it is not going too well for you."

"Yeah, I am trying to figure you out, because dude, I don't get you, Diana just told you why I went to jail, and you're still taking me to your house, why?"

"Listen, if I saw you as a threat, we wouldn't be here right now, Austin; it's not that I trust you or something, but you seem like a good guy, and I'm a very good judge of character, so don't get your knickers in a twist about why."

"You might be as crazy as I am, and dude, I'm batshit crazy," he said, puzzled.

"You're not the first person to call me crazy."

"Well, since you hold me in such high regard and are so determined to be my friend, I owe you an explanation."
