“That won’t work this time, Maria. I’m not leaving this place. Not until I get all the answers that I need. So you’d better start talking.”

Maria’s lips trembled as she pressed them tightly together and crossed her arms against her chest to contain her emotions. Now was not the right time for this. She did not have the strength to stand against this man. For the first time since he walked in, she noticed his unusually disheveled appearance and swallowed hard to keep the tears that threatened to fall contained.

Deep down, Maria that she was not the only one who had suffered extensively from the incident twenty-three years ago. This man had also had it tough. Having to live with such heartless family members was indeed pathetic.
