Chapter Four

I planned on heading to the city and making something of myself so I could continue to give her all the things she was used to, i wanted to make sure she never went without anything, heck! I wanted to place her on a throne and spoil her rotten, i was ready to do or give her anything she wanted.

That fateful day i had shown up at the church full of naïve teenager dreams and one bag when I heard approaching steps, I turned in anticipation, ready to see my Lilith, but my heart sunk at the sight of her father, the man approached with a sympathetic smile plastered on his face.

“Finn, I’m sorry but Lilith asked me to come and speak with you,” David had stated, I didn’t understand why she would send her father to me after our arrangements and plans.

“lilith said she could not face you but she did not want to leave here, i have some cash here to help you on your way, she said you planned to go to the city and I want to help you get there,” he said with that same smile on his face.

I felt like my world was falling out underneath him, the man pulled out an envelope loaded with hundred dollar bills, He held it out towards me, David was trying to pay me off, It was as if he was saying, thanks for entertaining my daughter but your services are no longer needed.

“I don’t want your money,” i spat at him, my eyes blazing with anger, hatred, disgust, I looked as David continued holding the envelope out, like he couldn’t believe the kid from the wrong side of town wouldn’t jump at having that much cash.

“lilith was hoping this would appease your feelings and help you get on with your life,” David had the gall to say.

“Tell Lilith I said no thank you,” i growled at him and then turned and walked away, I never looked back, I had never been so angry until when her father had offered to pay me off but when i found out it was Lilith's idea i saw red.

I could not believe how wrong i had been about her, the thing that made me even angrier was the grief coursing through me at knowing I would not see her again, as I walked back towards my childhood home, I vowed someday I would have her begging me to take her back and then i would be the one to walk away.

I made my way home in my limousine, seated at the back, I closed my eyes, my fingers massaging my forehead trying to ease the growing headache, I hate parties like this, and this reoccurring thoughts that I have tried so much to stop.

I could remember I had told my father goodbye and then left for the city that day after the meeting with David, the thought of what he and his daughter had done made me worked night and day until i purchased my first company, i was excellent at my job, found companies that were on the verge of bankruptcy, bought them and divided them up, making huge sums of money, my first takeover had led to many, many more, i was now worth far more than Lilith and her father ever had been and i was about to start my revenge.

Getting to my hotel, I downed a scotch and then went to bed, my day was a full one tomorrow and I wanted to be well rested for what was to come. I would finally have Lilith at my mercy, when her father no longer had any money left.

I sat back at my desk, with a huge cat grin on my face, the papers were all signed and now i was the owner of The EarthMix Corporation, i felt unbelievably good, i had taken it right out from under David, without the man even being aware of what was going on.

David knew his company was nosediving into trouble but he did not know about the hostile take-over, my victory felt so much better, knowing David had walked into his former offices today only to be met by my security men.

I had been tempted to be there, sitting in the man’s chair, just so i could see his reaction, I had barely been able to stop myself but i had plenty of time to gloat. I turned around and stared out the huge windows of his office, looking down at the thriving city of NYC.

I always felt good when i acquired a new company but this one was different this one was the pinnacle of everything i had been working for over the past ten years.

I heard commotion outside his office and turned around to find the man in question had barged in through his doorway, my secretary came chasing after him. “Sir, you can’t go in there,” she was trying to say, her voice and eyes panicked.

“It’s okay Sophia, I can handle this,” I told her. She apologized and stood there, not knowing what to do. “You can call security, I have a feeling Mr Gilbert will need to be escorted from the building once we are done talking,” i finished, the smile never left my face, this confrontation was coming far quicker than i had expected.

“You piece of trash!" David yelled at me, his eyes blazing with fury.
