Chapter Twenty-Seven

My eyes stay trained on the slow-ticking clock situated behind my teacher's head. I have zero focus on what he is discussing. When the next bell rings, Samara and I are leaving school early, to go to the airport. Our best friend is finally coming home and I cannot be more excited about it.

"Are you even listening?" Miles teases me, leaning over to tuck a piece of my hair behind my ear.

I shake my head with a sheepish smile, my stomach performing a flip-flop motion as his fingers scrape against my skin. "Nope."

"I can tell," he smirks. "Excited to go see Kiarra?"

"So excited," I agree with a grin.

"I haven't seen that girl for ages. Has she changed much?"

"No," I laugh quietly. "She is the exact same."

"Between me and you," Miles says, lowering his voice even more. "She is way cooler than Samara."
