"Hi." I wanted to force a smile to make him more amenable to me but I frankly didn't have it in me.

Jamie looked surprised that I was talking to him and that he didn't care about my tone or expression. That didn't stop him from being hostile though, "hi."

"Isabella is not in school." I informed him, even though I was sure he was aware.

It's been two days. Surely she can't skip school for ever and she would have to deal with me.

"I know." He went back to his meal and I sat down in front of him waiting for more explanation.

There were a ton of questions just under the tip of my tongue.

Why didn't she come to school?

Was she okay?

Did she say anything about me?

"What?" He snapped when he found out that I was not gone.

"Why is she not in school?" I asked gently.

"Is she not your friend?" I didn't care for the sarcasm in his tone.

"No."

"Well, sorry about that." With a smug smile.
