Chapter 43 – Persuasion

Conrad was amused and exasperated at the same time. He kept telling her not to rush it but in the last week alone, she said it a few times already.

“Are you sure? Please, Alice. Give it more time.”

“I’m sure. Of course, it would feel uncomfortable at first, but that’s to be expected. You won’t fault me for that, would you? I’ll manage to adapt. With you around, I’m sure no one would dare to harm me.”

They silently stared at each other for a good while.

“Let’s wait a month, alright? If you still want to go back by then, we’ll go.”

She wasn’t pleased with his suggestion and pursed her lips.

“Do… don’t you want to know why I want to go back now?” She expected him to ask, but he hasn’t. She finally decided to bring it up herself.

Seeing how vulnerable she looked, he’s really not keen. “You don’t have to force yourself to do anything. Apart from your safety, my other concern is your happiness. I really don’t want you to experience any kind of suffering. You’ve had enough of that.”
