Chapter 48. Looking for culprits.

Seeing Steph come to see me, despite how moron I was towards her in the morning, made me fall to my knees, crying bitterly. Maybe she’s the only one in the entire world who can understand how I feel. I know she loves her daughters, and if one of them got hospitalized, it would devastate her.

Stephanie caresses my back as she says, “Matt, don’t worry. This will pass. Your son will be fine. Trust the girls. They are very good at what they do.”

As tears stream down my face, I hastily raise my hands to cover my eyes, trying to regain composure. I see Steph is kneeling next to me. Clearing my throat, I say, “Thank you for being here, Steph. It means the world to me.”

She nods silently. Then she says, “did you call the police?”

I stand up and help her do the same, while telling her, “Taylor is taking care of that. I presume they will be here soon.”
