My heart dropped when I shook his hand. It was only then when my hand was in his, I noticed something of critical importance.

I didn’t notice it before but he had a ring on his ring finger, “You-” My heart began to tremble, “You’re married?” I looked up at him in horror and he got a little confused.

“What’s with that expression?” He chuckled, “It’s not weird to be married at my age. I’m not that young,” It shattered my heart and I slipped my hand away from his in distress.

“I see…” I held my hand in the other one and looked away.

“So,” Derek wasn’t bothered or anything, “I never asked for your name.” Of course, he wouldn’t be bothered, he’s a human.

“Oh!” I looked in his direction but didn’t meet his eyes, “Ah, it’s Po-” I stopped for a moment remembering my name. It was a name I hated, “Parisa.” I changed it on a whim. I was never able to like my name or its meaning because I knew full well it was given to me just to insult me.
