I hate graduations. Parents waiting patiently to see all the hard work they put in for the last 12 or so years has finally paid off. All the late-night, last-minute projects. Every math tournament. Band competition. The all-day track meets and loud football games.

Let us not forget the monthly progress reports and the semester report cards. All of it leading up to this very moment. All of it, just so they can shout their babies name aloud while watching them receive a piece of paper that will push them toward the next step in life.

I hate graduations. Especially when it’s a big school. Hundreds of kids lining up outside the building. Then lining up inside the building, so they could walk in a straight line to their carefully spaced seats.

Then after listening to some well composed speech, we all have to wait patiently for that same line of young adults walk across a stage.
