Chapter Forty Six

Leah’s POV

As I enter my room, my steps are heavy with disappointment and frustration. I am unable to shake off the feeling of betrayal that lingers in my chest. As I approach my bed, my eyes fall upon a folded piece of paper lying on top of the sheets. I reach out and pick it up, unfolding it with trembling hands.

"Had to attend an emergency meeting. Be back soon."

Reading the note makes my heart sink even further. Xavier isn’t here, and the weight of his absence feels like a ton of bricks adding to my growing despair.

Why hasn't he called me?
