CHAPTER XLVIII: The Origin of Envy
“Rest inside my Holy Sphere so that the curse he put in you will be cleansed. Then, heal yourself after. I’ll just teach this sc*mbag a lesson. Just help me whenever you finished healing yourself,” Suzaine uttered to Almirah. Then, a thin golden sphere covered the woman. Slowly, golden dots gathered on her wounded shoulder. The red marks crawling on different parts of her body were gradually reducing.“Crescentia!” Suzaine shouted and a bright ball of golden light pulsated from her body. “You can’t take what is mine, Leviathan. I have friends. I am not alone in this battle. As long as I have them, no one can bring me down. Whatever it takes, I will defeat you,” she stated, clenching her jaws as her teeth were gritting with determination.
“Then, I’ll have to kill them first before you. That would be a lot interesting,” Leviathan taunted with his deep ugly vo
CHAPTER XLIX: In the Name of Love“Suzaine… Suzaine is now g-gone,” Almirah said, stuttering, as she regained her consciousness. Tears welled up in her eyes non-stop and she cried as if there’s no tomorrow anymore. We are all hurt, but among us, Almirah is the one who’s in pain the most.I averted my gaze at her and firmly closed my eyes. I couldn’t stand watching her crying. It’s too heartbreaking. No one is used to a loss of someone whom you treated special.“First was Lotus, and followed by Suzaine. They died. That only means they were weak. So who will be next?” Vela audaciously stated as she moved her stare from one comrade to another. Was she insulting our fallen comrades? But I didn’t see any hint of mockery in her face. Well, no one knows if she’s insulting Lotus and Suzaine because she’s almost unpredictable unlike Caya who wa
CHAPTER L: Mammon’s True Human FormGlade walked towards the devil lavishly eating on his table. It was enjoying its meal while watching us being appalled by Deborah’s sudden collapse. The disgusting smirk on his face didn’t fade away ever since it showed to us.We were all surprised when Glade strongly thumped the table with his bare hands. His action caused the eating utensils to make a sheer ringing noise in the surrounding. Some foods were spilled on the table cloth. But that didn’t piss off the demon nor stun him.He laughed annoyingly as hell and he asked, “What’s wrong, man? Why you seemed so angry?”“Stop acting innocently. It’s you who inflicted us a strong feeling of hunger and thirstiness so you could lure us to join you to eat on your table,” Glade firmly stated, accusing the devil without strong evidence. Though, he made sense. The moment that devil showed to us, I
CHAPTER LI: Might, Power and Trump Cards“YOU amazed me, brother. Is that what love can do to you?” Astaroth asked Mammon, taunting him with a pestering smile plastered on his face. Mammon was taken aback because of Astaroth’s question. What did Astaroth mean? How come love was being dragged in to the topic? My forehead creased as my eyebrows furrowed.I heard him clear his throat before giving a response to his brother that was not really connected to the question. “Don’t drag that here, Astaroth. I know that you were after me so bring it on!” Mammon exclaimed then the aura around him became more intense. But if I’m going to analyze Mammon, he was trying to divert the topic.Astaroth finally stood up from sitting complacently on his chair decorated with a petrified snake on its headboard. But after a while, the petrified snake came to life and it slithered on his right han
CHAPTER LII: Memories of the FallenHe’s controlling the dead. Astaroth has the power to summon dead people from their grave and use them as he wishes--a necromancer. I and Raid eliminated hundreds of these living corpses but their numbers were not decreasing. They kept on coming. We were being careful because as we went near to them, they spewed a poisonous gas. And the whole arena now is being engulfed with a thick toxic fog, restraining us to move freely without covering our nose and closing our eyes to prevent the noxious air from entering our body. This is insane! Now, we need to rely only on our instinct. I need to concentrate and sense where the next attack will be coming from.“Cerina, behind you,” Mammon told me so I quickly pivoted my body and released a black slash of my weapon. A deep voice grunted followed by a crunchy sound as the dead corpse disintegrated into thin air. I was stunned when I felt an attack coming from above.
CHAPTER LIII: Betrayal and Broken PromiseI keep on swinging my weapon to slash these balls of dark energies pursuing me and to eliminate these annoying living corpses tainted with filth and poisonous stench. Not yet. I can’t resort to that. I need to reserve my trump card in this fight for Astaroth. I know he has many more to offer in his sleeve. But I’m thinking he’s a really worthy opponent because he’s using underhanded tactics to exhaust us and push us to our limits. D*mn that coward demon king! Why don’t he fight us himself?“Because that’s the nature of his cursed magic. He’ll use his enemy’s loved one or someone close to them to make them feel betrayed. Astaroth believes that betrayal does not come from enemies stabbing you behind your back but it comes the from person you trusted the most,” Mammon answered my question while I continue evading and slashing those attacks from the enemy’s puppe
CHAPTER LIV: Farewell, My BrotherI laid Raid’s lifeless body on the ground. “You fought a good fight, Raid. Thank you… thank you for everything you did for me. I appreciate you. You may take rest now. Rest in me… my love,” I muttered without any hint of emotion in my voice.I bowed my head and positioned my left hand with my palm facing him. I wrapped his body with black feathers and put him inside my celestial realm along with Archmaster Leonard and Archmistress Demia. Basically, I can’t use my celestial realm in this fight because they will be affected. But that is not a problem because I still have Mammon’s cursed realm and have trained myself to manifest it in the outside world.A tear escaped my left eye as I completely absorbed Raid using Beelzebub’s gluttony. There’s no time for mourning the dead. Vela was right. We are at war. We should not let our emotions get in our way or else our lives might be
CHAPTER LV: TraitorI and Astaroth keep on exchanging blows. The snake on his right hand turned into a long iron rod and he’s using it to counter my attacks. He attempted to thrust his weapon to me but I was able to grab it. However, I immediately loosened my grip on it when its higher tip suddenly turned into a serpent and it tried to bite my arm. I gritted my teeth as I have remembered how it found an opening on me earlier to inflict a poison in my spiritual realm that targeted Mammon.I need to think quickly on how to defeat this filthy demon. I need to find a gap. I stepped backward and jumped meters away from him. “Cancer, please help me bring my enemy down. I’m begging you,” I said mentally. I concentrated and channeled all my divine magic and celestial mana in my weapon. My grace turned back into its former state because Mammon’s curse left it the moment he died. My divine magic also came back to me without a taint of dark ma
CHAPTER LVI: Confusion, Sorrow and Extreme FearMy friends came to me and assisted me to stand up on my feet. I looked at them one by one with a blank expression in my face. The rain is still pouring down from the sky but they didn’t mind if they will be soaked. Their eyes are filled with sorrows. They took me in the shed of the viewing deck of the arena while my mind was so pre-occupied by multitude of thoughts. I don’t know but every time I remember Astaroth saying that there was a traitor among us, there was a voice in my head telling me that I should not trust them. That demon was sincere and serious that time when he warned me so I have this intuition that he was telling the truth. And it frustrates me that I wasn’t able to know that d*mn truth. Though I know I wasn’t ready for it. I might collapse if I learn that one them is going to betray me. But it’s bugging in my head especially that truth is concerned about Mother Ariana’s
