Ch.5- Don't work hard, work smart

In a secluded mansion deep in the forest, three people sat on a spacious couch, looking at the TV screen in front of them.

One was five years old, while the other's were two grown men.

Behind them, on the staircase, a slender woman, with a black robe loosely worn to cover her flushed body, walked downstairs, her damp green hair flowing to her ass and a glass of water in her hand.

“What are you all stairing at? I thought I had given you work to do.“ She said to the two men, and then, turning to the toddler, she sighed, “Darling, didn't I ask you to go upstairs and get in bed? It's past your bedtime!“

“I am not a baby mom.“ The toddler rolled her eyes before a mischevious glimmer flashed across her eyes.

“You were five the last time I checked. And I don't like that glimmer in your eyes.“ The woman shook her head, rolling her eyes in response.

“You never told me you were dead, mom, but I guess that explains our rare features and capabilities.“ The toddler giggled.

"D..." she stammered, then glared at the two men sitting beside her princess. They were her main culprits.

Before she could lash out at them for telling her toddler such a thing, one of them chuckled and then raised his hands in innocence, "We didn't tell her, Miss Wendy. She saw on the news.“ He nodded toward the television.

That was when Wendy Queen caught sight of what was going on in the news. With a defeated sigh, she switched off the television and then turned to her daughter. "Mommy isn't dead. So, if you get your ass up and get to bed, she'll appreciate it."

Her princess groaned, mumbled a dragged fine, and kissed her on the cheek before bidding the two men goodnight and heading to her room.

“I thought you said you wouldn't be letting anyone know that you were back.“ One of the men complained, feeling wronged.

Being a gossiper, the moment they landed in Strawberry Pack, he wanted to let the world know that Miss Wendy was back, but she asked him not to.

Now a random person has done his job.

“Of course. And I am still stuck in that.“ She switched on the TV and then muttered, "Screw you, Griffin!“

“Griffin?“ The man questioned her, looking at her with curiosity and wanting to know more about Griffin.

With the look on Wendy's face, they both knew that it was Griffin who had exposed her return.

“She is Miracle's new principal. I did ask her not to tell anyone about my return, but..." she clicked her tongue, then proclaimed, "You know who to contact, right? I want that sh*t to disappear in the next thirty minutes. I'll be in Miracle's room."

The person she was asking to be contacted was Malick Henrey.

He is a big name in the entertainment industry and has the capability to get rid of any juicy gossip from the media.

Of course, anyone else could do that, but he was the quickest when it came to handling those things. And these others can only get rid of gossip from one source, but he tracks the gossip until he finds the source that started it and completely clears everything.

At that moment, Principal Griffin was in her home office, tapping her keyboard as she smiled in satisfaction.

Half way through the school reports, she decides to log in to her social media accounts to see how far her gossip has spread, but frowns.

“This is not the result I wanted. Let me create another post,” she said to herself, the smile that had worn away spreading back across her face.

The moment she clicked into her picture gallery, her laptop suddenly shut down. She picked up a charger from the drawer and connected it.

“Battery Full!“ The screen hummed with its opening notification.

Sighing, she tried pressing the on and off buttons. Her eyes twinkled when the laptop chimmed open. After setting her glasses properly, she quickly logged into her gallery.

“The heck!“ She screamed, waking up her husband, who was in a deep slumber.

“Anything wrong, honey?“ A thirty-year-old man, with a full beard and a pot belly, asked.

"Uh, I don't know how I lost that picture,” she responded, her finger tapping on the keyboard furiously.

On top of her screen, inside the gallery, two options sat comfortably. Favorites and trash. She tapped the trash option, her eyes scanning among the hundreds of pictures, looking for a particular one.

What was crossing her head at that moment was that she accidentally deleted the photo when her laptop died. "It's not here either.“ She said in a low voice, a dissapointed sigh escaping her lips.

Her husband, seeing her sad expression, came off the bed and hugged her from behind. "Was the picture that important? Come on, honey, you know I can let you take another sexy picture of me.“ He leaned in, trying to kiss her earlobe, but was roughly pushed away.

“Nevermind!' she grumpled, going back to bed, tears almost welling out of her eyes.

Amos Williams, who didn't know what wrong he had committed to receive such treatment from his wife, struggled to stand on his feet.

Thanks to the light stand, he stood without crumbling down on the floor and rubbed his buttocks. “That was a hard push, you know.“ He complained, but was only answered with a loud snore. "Oh, good lord!“ he exclaimed in annoyance, trotting out of the room.

At Wendy Queen's place, the wind in the forest had died down a little. The forest moaned as it sang a lullaby to the world. Up in the sky, where numerous clouds had gathered as if in a meeting, the moon ducked in and out of them, smiling down at whoever was looking up at it.

In the living room area, inside the fireplace, the woods cracked, flicking tongues of fire above, which danced merrily as they covered the two gentlemen on the couch with their warmth.

They spoke in low voices, as if afraid of waking up someone. On their feet, files and crumbled papers scattered everywhere around them.

In that silence, quick but yet steady strides were heard from behind them. None of them raised their heads to look at the person as she got closer and closer to them. “Is it done, Michael?“ She asked assertively.

At the same time, a deep voice rose from the phone beside the guy called Michael: “Mr. Michael, tell Luna Wendy the job is done, and as she had speculated, the source of the picture was from a woman called Griffin Williams. I have sent a copy in her email regarding anything she would want to know about her.“

“Thank you, Mr. Malick. I'll help you let Luna Wendy know.“ Michael responded, then hanged up.

“Now that is done,” Wendy sighed while sitting on the armchair across them. "Let's get into the real deal.“

“Yes, Luna Wendy.“ Responding with a sigh, the two men sank into work.

Since Wendy Queen had decided she'd be staying at Strawberry Pack forever, they had decided to shift some of her business over here as well.

When she left the pack five years ago, she had sworn to never return, but here she was. Besides, she thought Strawberry Pack would be the best place to raise her daughter.

That way, she will grow up knowing about her culture and true origins. The only thing that had made her rack her brain apart was a place to stay, but thanks to those two gentlemen sitting across her, she not only found a beautiful mansion that she bought, but it was also located exactly in a place she had in her imagination.

Although she is an outgoing person, she knew that would be good for her daughter, who was unfortunately dangerous to others when pushed too much.

On the thought of her daughter, she raised her head from the file in her hands and looked at the guy beside Michael. “Patrick, did you contact Doctor Tia?“

Tia was a well-known doctor and scientist.

She only treated the higher-ups of society, and getting to schedule an appointment with her was a miracle.

What Wendy Queen was trying to do was poach her. She actually wanted to convince her to be her daughter's private doctor.

Apart from the many she had taken her daughter to she was the only one who could at least maintain her daughter.

“Not yet, Luna. But from our inner sources, I heard that the Hilton family is trying to get her as well.

Luna Keisha is afraid that old age is about to catch up with her, so she wants her near by to fix her up anytime she finds something wrong with her face.“ He explained.

Yes, Doctor Tia was a plastic surgeon too.

While everyone was blessed with wolf or witch abilities or vampire system, she was blessed with the ability to treat others, regardless of their problem.

The moon gods had given her no wolves, no powers, and no vampire system, but the hands of a healing god.

Anything she touched, from outside the body or inside, she could heal. Possessed souls were nothing to her as well.

What worried Wendy most was that her daughter wasn't suffering from what she treats. It was something that even doctor Tia couldn't figure out.

The last time she saw her, she suggested that she should be allowed to study Miracle in order to find her cure, but she refused.

“My daughter is no mouse you can confine in the laboratory to carry out experiments!" She had yelled at her. But now, she thinks she has to let her do it. Given what her daughter had done when she forced her to apologize to Miss Eva, she knows it's time, which is why she wanted to poach her.

And if she was going to let her experiment her daughter, she would want her to be by her side.

A certain name crossed her mind, jarring her from her half-conscious state of mind. Facing Patrick, she asked, “Did you say Luna Keisha wants to poach her too?“

"Yes, Luna,” he nodded.

“On that note, try harder.“ She said it in a bossy tone.

Patrick bubbled his head in agreement. Try harder meant splashing money to get her. After all, what is it that money doesn't buy? and who is stupid enough not to accept it.

“Roger!“ He smiled at her.

Patrick knew just how much Wendy despised that family; she would do anything to make sure they don't get anything they want.

Yes, they may have been  getting anything they wanted, but not anymore.

Patrik's ears have always itched wanted to listen to some juicy gossip about the cause of Wendy's hatred towards that family, but he never had the confidence to ask.

Silently, he hopes that one day his boss will open up and tell him, or else he'll end up dying of curiosity.

What Patrick didn't know was that Wendy despised that family because of how they treated her. It was not only her ex-mate Zach who saw her as a gold digger and bulied her, but his whole family as well.

According to his parents, she was one of those shameless bitches who didn't hesitate to jump into a marriage with someone she didn't know because of riches.

They couldn't understand why old man Steven would want the pride of their family to accept a bumkin like her as his mate.

On many occasions, they even dared to say that she used charms on their son. So, just like Zach, they also swore to separate her from him. Even when he treated her like a piece of trash in front of people, they didn't dare correct him but laughed alongside others.

Wendy was even sure that they were happier than their son when it was announced that she had died in the fire.

If only old man Steven was still alive...

But then, although his death two weeks after she married Zach hurt her, she was partly happy.

Happy because if he never died, then she would have never seen the true face of Zach and his family.

Pure devil's!

It was at that moment when Zach demanded that she get burned alive that she realized he was the devil's second-hand man!

Three hours later, after they were done with their paper work and were sipping on some ginger tea, Patrik suddenly broke the silence. “I think that plan's going to work, Luna Wendy.“

Knitting her brows in confusion, not understanding what plan since they had many, she moved back her head a little to show that she hadn't understood.

“Well,” Patrik said, placing his cup on the table and passing his working tablet to her. When I told you I couldn't get hold of Doctor Tia, you said I should try harder, and I did.“ His eyes sparkled, a smile crossing across his tired face.

“Mmh,” Wendy hummed as she stared at the screen. “Arrange a meeting for us.“ She handed over the tablet back to him. Although she had returned her concentration to her cup of tea, she still felt a burning gaze on her. Sighing in defeat, she praised, “ good work, Patrik.“

Only if he had a tail, she was sure he would be wagging it by now.

“Don't get too excited. It's just a meeting; she hasn't agreed to only work for me. If that happens, I will gift you that sports car you have been eyeing in my garage.“

“I promise to work hard to seal the deal, Luna Wendy.“ He got energetic and more determined when he heard about the car.

“Don't just work hard. Work smart!“ With that, she dismissed them.
