56. Clarissa

It was a dark and quiet night. Jalen and his dad were out and I stayed in Jaela's room. The only sound in the room was the soft sniffling of Jaela as she lay in bed, tears streaming down her face. I sat beside her, rubbing her back in slow circles, trying to offer her some comfort.

"I'm sorry, Jaela," I murmured, my heart heavy with sadness for my sister. "I know how much you care for Cade, but maybe he's not worth it."

Jaela's only response was a soft whimper, her tears falling faster. I picked up a tissue and gently wiped her tears away, feeling a pang of guilt for not being able to do more to ease her pain.

I leaned in and hugged her tightly, whispering words of encouragement and love in her ear, trying to remind her that she was strong and that there were plenty of other people out there who would be lucky to have her.

Despite my efforts, Jaela's sobs didn't stop and I felt a weight on my chest. I knew that healing a broken heart takes time but I felt like I failed to cheer her up
