Chapter 40

The sun was almost setting as Lucian and Violet walked down the hall to the dining room for dinner. They stopped their steps as Eric and Oliver walked over to them and stood in front of them. "My king, Albert, sent you a message," Eric said with a worried look on his face. Oliver, who was standing beside Eric, also had the same look as him.

Eric then handed a small piece of paper in his hand to Lucian. The homing pigeon that brought the message to this place. Lucian took it from Eric's hand and read it. Worry and sadness gripped him at the same time when he found out that his beloved uncle was sick.

"What happened?" Violet asked Lucian curiously.

Lucian looked into Violet's eyes. "My uncle is sick," he said. Violet paused, staring at him. She felt what Lucian felt.

Lucian held Violet's shoulder. "I have to go see him now. I'll be back here as soon as I can," he said. Tears filled her sad eyes. She didn't want him to leave, but she had no choice. She nod
