The devil

Groaning, my hands reached for my head which was pounding so loud that I could hear it. As if in tune to my body, I could feel my headache pulse in time with each throb.

I slowly blinked my eyes open and stared at the stone ceiling.

"Where the hell am I?" I murmured, my voice suddenly feeling hoarse like someone who just swallowed a hot potato.

Blinking severally, I tried to scan the area only for my heart to drop into my stomach when I registered my surroundings.

A dungeon?

Panicking, I sat up only to see a dark gray door, and bars in the front of the cell. My eyes widened in panic and my heart sped up.

Then the throbbing headache struck, threatening to split my head into halves. I clutched my head and waves and waves of pain hit me. Memories of how Valeria and I were attacked on our way back to the castle.

A sob escaped my lips when Valeria's fate registered in my head.

She is dead.

She is gone.

It's my fault.

All my fault.

The words echoed in my head as tears streamed down my face.
