37. Forest

As I open my eyes, I am assaulted by a splitting headache and immediately let out a groan. The images are blurred but soon come into focus, and I realize that I am back at the penthouse.

Did I fall asleep in the car? The last thing I remember is walking towards the car with Kai's hand in mine. I must have been entirely out of it and drained to have passed out like that.

I grab my phone from the nightstand to look at the time: 6 am! I slept the entire evening away! As if to tell me I messed up, my stomach growls in protest, so I get up from the bed only to notice that I was in PJ's.

Smiling, I slip on my fluffy slippers and head downstairs. When I reach the bottom of the stairs, I don't see or hear anything; was anyone home? Shuffling down the hallway, I make my way to Kai's study and raise my hand to knock, but before I could, Kai spoke.
