That cold, sharp counter question almost destroyed Tally's defenses, but she held on and said as calmly as possible, "Of course there wasn't?"

"May I remind you that the report is Kathryn's?" Markus continued, his tone growing sharper.

"Oh, that's true. But I was the one who got it wrong."

Markus held that sharp gaze toward her, waiting for whatever she would say next. Tally felt a little guilty because of that, but she held on.

"My father was forcing me to marry. I wanted that report for myself, but I accidentally said Kathryn's name during the phone call. That's how the doctor got confused," she lied seriously.
