The atmosphere in the room became tense. Chris crossed his legs and shut the book in his hand. He was staring at Kathryn with a charged glint in his eyes, causing her to hang her head. She could barely breathe in his presence. It was over. She must've provoked his ire. Chris' anger alone was more than enough to shake the entirety of the city.

Just as Kathryn was about to fall apart, he spoke in a cold voice, "Are you threatening me?"

"No!" she answered hastily. She couldn't threaten the man who was her boss, but she didn't want to lose herself again.

Her timidity had him smirking. "Hah, really?" This was interesting. Was she trying to play hard to get? That didn't seem very likely. She was as timid as a mouse and wouldn't try anything of the sort. With how scared she was, it confirmed that she wasn't the culprit. A thorough cleaning of his social circle was in order! But it seemed he'd underestimated his assistant. How dare she negotiate terms with him?
