Malakai had power. A hell of a lot of it and he used it to his advantage. He came a long way from when his parents tried to kill him. Yes he experienced so many traumas along the way, the darkness inside him was built from it, but he came out of it stronger than anyone Eden had met. And that was truly admirable.
