CHAPTER 22

Working was indeed what Amara really needed to keep her mind from what was going on with her. Thank God she didn’t have to twist Reece’s arm too much in order to get a light ‘okay... if you must’ from his part.

Amara slipped a new drink order behind the bar to Frank, then loaded her tray with a fuzzy navel and two bottles of beer to deliver to another table in the establishment.

She scooped up a bowl of peanuts and gathered a few extra napkins just as Tiffany sidled up next to her at the bar to place a drink order of her own.

"You have new customers at tables seven and fourteen," she said, slanting Amara a quick, attentive glance. "Would you like me to take their orders for you?"

Amara had only been on her shift for about forty minutes, but within sixty seconds of working the floor, she'd known that she was going to have to prove to her co-worker and friend, and to her boss… well, to everyone around, that she was fully capable of handling her job no coddl
