Chapter 26: Wait for the next chance

At the city's central hospital.

"Family members are not allowed in the operating room. Please wait in the hallway."

A nurse hurriedly followed the group pushing Emma's bed into the surgery room and called out loudly to Harry.

The lights in the operating room began to shine, and the sign above the door switched to a blinding red against the pristine white walls.

At 8 p.m., Harry sat alone on a long bench in the hallway. His hands were tightly interlocked, yet his face betrayed no emotion. His vest was stained with Emma's fresh blood. From the moment he carried her out of the Main House to their arrival at the hospital, everything had been a chaotic blur, and Harry couldn't recall any of it.

The hospital corridor was still crowded, but he seemed lifeless, gazing down at his blood-covered hands. The only image that occupied his mind was the sight of Emma, lying silently in the ambulance, innocent as a child.
