RaylineI looked closer and noticed that they were history and mythology books, dozens of books.“Are you...” I reached out and picked up one of the books. “Are you researching the lore of angels and demons?”“Yeah,” he said as he flipped through the pages, and my jaw dropped. He then turned to me. “You guys said that I would get in the way in the field, so I did my best.” He put down the book. “Reading.”I flashed him a smile and moved closer to rest by his side. “So,” I started, “what are you researching?”“How to get these runes off of you.”“What?” I looked up.“Mrs. Parker said you had to kill the spellcaster, so all the supernatural beings are looking for Silas to find out who cast the spell, right?” He asked.“Supernatural beings?” I raised an eyebrow.“What? They need some kind of name,” he said and I rolled my eyes.“Well, that was exactly what she said.”“But!” he cut me off. “She also said that if you use the angel relic, it can be eliminated.”“Yeah, but she said they were
Rayline"Wow, is this..." As I handed a piece of paper to all of them, they all immediately looked at the paper on the table."Yeah," I said as I took a seat near the counter."And he found all this out just by doing some research?" asked Taylor in a surprised tone."Yeah. Just give Darren a task, and he will dive in head first.""Does any of this really exist?" Jesse asked as he pointed at the paper, his eyes meeting Chase's."From what we have learned, everything he listed is already known to exist," Chase nodded."I'm also shocked that he was able to find myths and legends that can be traced. There are so many religions and beliefs that could be possibilities. I'm surprised that they're all true.""Well," Cole broke in, "among all the beliefs and stories, you can see the similarities..." His finger traced the list of words on the page. "And among those similarities, that's where you can find the truth.""Never really had it looked at like that." I raised both my eyebrows."So it lo
RaylineIt was just too bright. My eyes could not see a single thing. I whipped my head around, looking frantically as a gust of wind passed me by.“Mom!” The sound of Cole's voice is clear, but I can't see him.In a flash, the light was fading and was turning gray. I noticed that I was staring at the sky. Clouds. I was falling.“Mom!” shouted Cole again as he looked around. Now I could see the ground, and it was quickly approaching. There was another figure nearby, falling to the Earth, and I realized that it was his mother.Cole managed to get on his stomach, his limbs stretching as his black wings spread. A strong wind blew past my face, making it hard for me to see. Then I realized that there was water covering his vision. He was crying. He was trying to flap his wings, doing everything that could be done, but only flapping his wings to get close to his mother's body. Then it hit me. He had no idea how to fly at all.Cole grimaced as he used all his strength to flap his wings, fig
RaylineInside of the dream, I was waiting outside of the large double-door entrance. There I found myself realizing that Cole was showing me his memories again. I could hear voices in the room as I fidgeted endlessly with the small envelope in my hand.“Why are you interrupting? This is a very important meeting,” says a familiar voice, and there is a moment of silence.“I'm sorry, sir, but there is a boy who wishes to see you... He claims to be your son.”There was a long silence, and I took a deep breath.“I'm sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Gray, but I think we should reschedule our meeting,” the voice finally answers.“Of course.”From inside came the sound of shuffling footsteps, and I stiffened as the door opened. Two adults came out of the room, their eyes meeting mine for a moment, well that was basically Cole, and following behind them, I could recognize that it was Taylor. He was neatly dressed and looked much younger. He gave me a curious look as he passed by, but he didn't say a word.
Rayline"Ready?" Jesse asked, and I nodded.Jesse placed his hands over my eyes and started muttering in another language. There was a rush of energy that seemed to flow through my body, and when I opened my eyes, I wasn't seeing through my own eyes, but rather seeing myself through Jesse's eyes. I blinked, and then all of a sudden came back to my body."Are you okay?" he asked."Yeah." I blinked a few times, still in a daze."I'll turn it on when the meeting starts.""Okay," I just nodded. "Where is Taylor anyway?""He will meet us there with his father.""Oh..." I guess it made sense that his father would be there. It would look weird if he came with Jesse and Cole's father instead of his own. Part of me began to wonder what Taylor's relationship with his parents was like. It can't be the same as Jesse and his father, considering how Taylor has a lot of freedom, plus he is allowed to be friends with Cole. Not long after, I snapped out of my trance and turned to Cole. "If you feel so
RaylineTheir father came to two large doors, and he glanced at the two of them before pushing the doors open. They walked straight into a meeting room. There was a large table in the center with six people seated. Some looked human, while others had various animal-like features. One of them had wolf-like eyes and claws on his fingertips, while another had long, bird-like claws, and another had skin so pale and sunken that he could be mistaken for a corpse. There was one that looked like a snake, the corner of its mouth stretched out abnormally wide, as well as a woman who was probably the most stunning creature I had ever seen, and her bright green eyes met Cole's for a moment before she looked away. His father sits at the head of the table while Cole follows behind Jesse, who leans against the back wall to watch. My gaze then fell on Taylor across the room, who was standing still like the other two, and I saw Jesse and him make eye contact with a nod."Welcome back," Harvey starts t
RaylineSilence fell over the room, the shocked expressions of many of them visible."Apologize, my lord, I did not know you had two sons.""As many as that." He glanced at Taylor's father again, and I vaguely remembered that only a few knew of Cole's existence. After all, their families were very close. Or maybe it was because Taylor's family was there when Cole showed up. "And I'm sure they both have some things they want to ask you, as well as your son." He gestured to Taylor's father, and the other six glanced at the three of them.Cole sucked in a breath before stepping forward as Jesse followed behind him, and they stood at the end of the table."I wish I could ask one of you if you have ever given your powers to help a lower-class demon cast a demonic rune or heard of one doing so."There was an awkward silence for a moment as everyone stared into Cole's red eyes."Has anyone ever cast a spell for one? I have not heard of such a thing in centuries," the pale one spoke up."Yes.
RaylineAll of a sudden I heard a loud crash, and Jesse's head jerked to the side as a cry of pain echoed throughout the room. The snake-like man's arm is broken in half, the bone splitting like a twig, and he is clutching it through gritted teeth. At first, I thought that it was Cole, but he stood there with his eyes wide open like Jesse, and then I realized that Harvey was sitting upright, with his eyes turning red."Apologize." His stern voice echoes in the room, and all the other members watch in silence. "Don't look down on the dead. You of all people should know that, Leonardo." The man whimpered in response. "Now, apologize.""...Forgive me, my lord.""Not for me." The man's head slowly lifted and his eyes trembled. "For my son." He then looked at Cole and glared at him, gritting his teeth. One more strike and the man screamed. His arm broke in the second place, and I could see Cole's red eyes darting between the man and his father. "I said, apologize!" Harvey said in a ster
