Chapter 40

LEONIE

I grabbed the phone in my hand and with my heart in my throat I dialled my office. To my shock, there was no service. I tried repeatedly till the phone announced it was shutting down.

I gasped in horror, and tried my best to switch it back, hitting it repeatedly on the back like a miracle was going to happen, but nothing was happening. I only felt the shadow of doom press down on me.

“No, this can’t be happening to me,” I said in worry.

At one last hit, the phone booted back on. I tried once more, and it was still the same thing. Trying once more, it went dead for the second time. I swallowed hard in shock. This couldn’t be happening to me right now.

I frantically tied repeatedly, but it never came on. A scream tore through my lips, and I threw the phone to the wall, and it slowly disintegrated in fragments. Hot tears slid down my eyes at the shock of what was going on. I grabbed the bag, and pulled it all.
