Chapter 33 Penelope is the target?

GIOVANNI ~ ~

I turned my head slowly, trying to take in any scents that might be out of the ordinary. But all I could smell was the stale air of the prison, and the faint scent of Jannie's perfume. My heart was racing, and I felt a bead of sweat run down my temple just with the way Jannie's face kept paling. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end, and I knew something wasn't right.

Just as I was about to turn around, I saw the warden's eyes widen, and I knew I wasn't alone. I spun around, pointing my gun at whatever I thought was there.

But fuck! There was nothing there.

The wall behind me was empty, save for the warden and a confused expression on his face. I spun back around to face Jannie, who was staring at me with a twisted smile. There was something off about her, something I couldn't quite put my finger on, so I kept my gun trained on her, my eyes burning with anger and contempt. I wanted her to see how I felt, to see the disgust and disdain I had for her.
